Senior Test Analyst – Birmingham – 30K – 40K

 

JOB PURPOSE:

 

  • To support the Practice Lead in establishing and developing appropriate governance standards and apply industry standard best practice in Test and Quality Assurance across all company projects
  • Produce test plans and estimates in consultation with internal key stakeholders and development team(s)

 

DIMENSIONS:

 

  • To work with the Practice Lead and Project Management Office to ensure that all projects are delivered according to estimates and in line with customer budgets and quality expectations
  • To work on multiple customer projects from pre-sales through to delivery, as agreed with the Project Management Office
  • To contribute to and meet Key Performance Indicators at both individual and team level (including individual utilisation targets)
  • To attend adequate Learning and Development opportunities throughout the year to support the technical and soft skill requirements for the role

 

KEY RESULT AREAS:

 

  • Develop and maintain Quality Assurance governance processes, ensuring that software and quality standards are continually improved
  • Provide testing input into the pre-sales and proposal process
  • Analyse Business Requirements, Functional Specifications, Business Processes and associated documentation to design and develop test documentation and data required for validating requirements
  • Executes tests in accordance with departmental procedures and policies
  • Analyse and record results and report progress to all project stakeholders
  • Ensure work is completed within the agreed budget and estimated timescales
  • Escalate risks and issues to the appropriate stakeholders – such as Practice Lead and the relevant Project Manager
  • Maintain accurate document and software functionality storage

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

 

Post-holder requirements:

  • Experience of contributing to setting standards for quality assurance and process improvement
  • Hands-on experience of manual and automated software testing
  • Experience of various testing techniques and methodologies – such as Waterfall and Agile
  • Well-organised, detail-oriented and able to handle and effectively prioritise multiple tasks and activities
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills
  • Experience in presenting and demonstrating solutions to wider teams – such as Sales
  • Good understanding and experience of working closely with other teams – such as Development and Design.

Technical skills requirement:

 

  • Essential
    • ISEB / ISTQB Foundation Certification in Software Testing
    • Experience of ETL (Extract, Transform and Load) processes
    • Experience of Business Intelligence technologies such as; SSIS, SSRS and SSAS
    • Experience of SQL Server and database management
    • Experience of testing across multi-tier architecture (both Front and Back end)
    • Web application and Cross Browser testing including mobile device testing
    • Knowledge of SharePoint platform and the associated technology stack

 

  • Desirable
    • Previous Software Development experience
    • Knowledge of Automated testing – such as Selenium Web Driver and IDE
    • Experience of non-functional test techniques such as Load, Performance and Security testing – such as LoadRunner and Visual Studio
    • Experience of managing test artefacts in different Test Management tools – such as TFS (Team Foundation Server), Microsoft Practice Lead and JIRA

 

  • In addition to the above any of the following are highly desirable
    • Familiar with project environments that use Agile Scrum and Waterfall Continuous Delivery
    • Experience of working with Virtual and Cloud-based environments – such as Azure

 

COMMUNICATIONS AND WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:

 

Internal:

  • Ongoing project test status checkpoints with Practice Lead
  • All internal teams, up to and including Managers and Directors at all levels to ensure customer service levels are maintained and for issue and defect resolution
  • Communicate test status and risk escalation to Project Management
  • Triage meetings with internal and client teams to discuss issues and defects
  • Colleagues for knowledge sharing and learning relevant technologies
  • Test representation in meetings, workshops, conference calls and discussions
  • IT Department for the provisioning and setup of test and development environments

 

External:

  • Assist clients during User Acceptance Testing (UAT) activities
  • Test representation in workshops

Ensuring all relevant communications are presented professionally and in an appropriate manner

 

SCOPE FOR IMPACT

 

The post holder is responsible for providing Test and Quality Assurance across all company projects and providing support during UAT and Post Implementation.

 

The post holder will not have any direct reports but will provide support for the Junior Test Analysts. The post holder will often be the only person assigned to a particular project to complete testing from end to end.
